On Tuesday 17 September, the Royal Family attended the opening of the Parliamentary Session.
The Royal Family arrived at the Riksdag by horse and carriage, and were met by Speaker Per Westerberg. In connection with his 40th jubilee, The King referred to the past and the future in his speech. "You must consider important matters. The opportunities and consequences of your decisions lie in your hands. This is particularly true when it comes to long-term changes, which stretch beyond parliamentary sessions and mandate periods." The King declared the Parliamentary Session open, after which Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt read the Statement of Government Policy. In the evening, the Royal Family attended a performance of The Magic Flute at the Royal Swedish Opera to mark the opening of the Parliamentary Session.
