The King holds a farewell audience with the Holy See's Apostolic Nuncio

On Tuesday 7 February, a farewell audience was held for the Holy See's Apostolic Nuncio Henryk Józef Nowacki at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

Just as an ambassador is received by The King on assuming his or her position in Sweden at a formal audience, a similar – albeit somewhat less formal – meeting is also held when the ambassador returns home again.

An apostolic nuncio is the Pope's official and diplomatic representative (ambassador) in a country or a region. The word "nuncio" comes from the Latin "nuntius", meaning "envoy". In diplomatic contexts, the term "the Holy See" is used instead of "the Vatican City State".
