On Saturday 16 August, The King and Queen took part in the King's Rally on Öland.
The rally was first held to mark The King's 50th birthday, and this year's rally – the eleventh in a row – started from the Strand Hotel in Borgholm. The first stop was Borgholm Church, after which the drivers passed Kårehamn, Föra, Gamleby, Sandvik and Grönvik.
350 participants in 109 cars took part in this year's event. The King drove a 1946 Volvo PV 60, which he received on his 50th birthday from Swedish King's Rally donors.
