The King and Queen receive the King and Queen of Belgium

On Tuesday 29 April, The King and Queen received King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, the new King and Queen of Belgium, who were visiting Sweden for the first time. The Crown Princess, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip attended a lunch, which was held at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

During the afternoon, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visited Speaker of the Riksdag Per Westerberg and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. The King and Queen then travelled to Norway.

King Philippe ascended to the throne on 21 July 2013. King Philippe is the oldest son of the former King Albert II and Queen Paola, and grandson of the Swedish Princess Astrid.

The last time King Philippe visited the Royal Palace of Stockholm, when he was Crown Prince, was as a guest at Princess Estelle's christening in 2012. Crown Princess Victoria is godmother to King Philippe and Queen Mathilde's youngest daughter, Princess Eléonore.

The King and Queen paid state visits to Belgium in 2001 and 1977. In 1994 The King and Queen received the former King Albert II and Queen Paola during the Belgian state visit to Sweden.
