On Sunday 27 January, The Crown Princess Couple attended a memorial ceremony for the victims of the Holocaust at the Great Synagogue of Stockholm.
Lena Posner-Körösi, chair of the Jewish Community in Stockholm, welcomed the attendees to the ceremony. Livia Fränkel, Vice President of the Association of Holocaust Survivors in Sweden, the Social Democratic Party's party leader Stefan Löfven, Israel's ambassador Isaac Bachman and Henrietta Cahn all gave speeches. Music was performed by the Yiddish choir Kum Zing Mit Undz. The ceremony was arranged to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp on 27 January 1945. Since 1999, this has been Sweden's official Holocaust Memorial Day. In 2005, the UN also declared the day an international memorial day.
