On Monday 4 February, The Crown Princess presented the Queer of the Year award at the QX Gay Gala at Cirkus in Stockholm.
The award, which is voted for by readers of QX, was won by the author, playwright, comedian and artist Jonas Gardell. In 2012, Jonas published the book "Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar" ("Never Dry Tears Without Gloves"), which has also been dramatised and broadcast on the Swedish TV channel SVT. In her speech, The Crown Princess said: "Now it is time to honour someone who has particularly distinguished himself. I'm delighted to be here this evening, experiencing your power, your joy and your sense of community. And I'm also delighted that I'm about to present this year's Queer of the Year award. Few people have affected us and moved us like you have. Your message is clear. Stand proud. Reach out your hand. Let us dry each other's tears. Let us do so with open hearts and our bare hands. The Queer of the Year award goes to the writer, dramatist and inspirer Jonas Gardell." Find out more about Jonas Gardell here. Find out more about QX here.
