On Wednesday 28 August, The King attended the ceremonial opening of the Sami Parliament at the Hotel Jokkmokk.
President of the Sami Parliament Assembly Stefan Mikaelsson gave a welcoming address and the Sami national anthem was sung in different Sami dialects.
 
President of the Sami Parliament Håkan Jonsson also gave a speech, and the winner of the Sami Parliament Election Committee's drawing competition, Naimi Kråik Johansson, was announced.
 
Guests included Speaker of the Parliament of Greenland Lars-Emil Johansen, Australia's ambassador Gerald Thomson and Canada's ambassador Kenneth Macartney. Sweden's Minister for Agriculture Eskil Erlandsson and Minister for Trade Ewa Björling also attended.
