On Wednesday 23 October, The King and Queen held an audience at the Royal Palace of Stockholm for Swedish honorary consuls working in Africa.
Ambassador Per Carlsson from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' Africa Unit in Stockholm presented the honorary consuls and the delegates from the embassy and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to The King and Queen. The following honorary consuls were then presented with Knight of the Royal Order of the Polar Star Class 1: Honorary Consul Christophe Bonnet, Pointe-Noire, Congo. Honorary Consul Ermanna Favaretto, N'Djamena, Chad. Honorary Consul Moh. Vall Bougouffa El Moctar, Mauritania. Honorary Consul Cheick Abdoul Kaba, Conakry, Guinea. Honorary Consul Thomas Ndandou, Brazzaville, Congo. Honorary Consul Roland Tankouan, Yaoundé, Cameroon, was presented with Member of the Royal Order of the Polar Star.
There are around 400 Swedish honorary consulates. Their task is to assist the embassies and career consulates with various duties. An honorary consulate is led by an honorary consul. The position of honorary consul is an unpaid honorary role. An honorary consul can be a Swedish citizen or a foreign citizen. Find out more about honorary consulates here.
