Guests at the banquet in the Blue Hall included leading elected representatives from the whole of Sweden, the Swedish Government, authorities and other professional associations. During the banquet, The King gave a speech in which he said: "Today, local administrative autonomy is part of Swedish society. Making decisions as close as possible to the country's citizens gives people influence over their own everyday lives. Healthcare, education and social care form the foundation of our welfare, and are an important aspect of our lives. "Just yesterday, The Queen and I completed a long journey throughout the entire country. In connection with my 40th jubilee, we have visited all 21 of Sweden's counties in the last few months, from the south to the north. "During these visits, we have clearly seen the great variations across the length and breadth of our nation. This variety is a wealth and an asset." The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions is an employment and professional organisation for municipalities, county councils and regions in Sweden. This makes the body Sweden's largest employer organisation. Its task is to give municipalities and county councils better conditions for local and regional autonomy.
