On Thursday 10 October, Prince Daniel visited Åland and gained an insight into industry and society on the islands.
On arrival in Mariehamn, Prince Daniel was met by Speaker Britt Lundberg, Premier of the Government of Åland Camilla Gunell, Swedish Consul-General Ingrid Iremark, County Governor Peter Lindbäck, Acting Assistant Director of Åland Parliament Carina Strand and Executive Officer Maj Falck. The Prince was then welcomed to Åland Parliament. First Vice Speaker Viveka Eriksson spoke about the history of Åland's autonomy. Speaker Britt Lundberg then presented Åland's present-day autonomy. Premier of the Government of Åland Camilla Gunell explained about the demilitarisation and neutralisation of Åland, and Minister of Industry and Trade Fredrik Karlström spoke about Åland's industry. During the afternoon, The Prince visited Åland Maritime Museum. The Prince was welcomed and given a guided tour of the museum by Director Hanna Hagmark-Cooper. The museum was re-opened just over a year ago, following extensive refurbishment and expansion. The Prince then took part in Framsteg, a seminar for young entrepreneurs, which was held at the Alandica Culture & Congress Centre. The Prince was met by Chairman of Åland Entrepreneurs' Organisation Dick Jansson, and was given a presentation of three businesses: the production company Naive, the Träningsverket gym and the Pub Stallhagen restaurant. The day concluded with a visit to maritime technology company Carus PBS AB, where CEO Anders Rundberg presented the company.
