The Seraphim Medal was instituted at the same time as the Order of the Seraphim in 1748, and is presented "for outstanding services of a humanitarian nature or of general benefit to society".
The medal is gold, of the eighth size, and bears a royal crown. The obverse features an image of King Fredrik I, and the reverse depicts the chain of the Order of the Seraphim.
