The finishing line of the 1,060 metre long course was located at the top of Slottsbacken.
On Wednesday 14 March, The King launched the ninth Royal Palace Sprint at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
In his speech, The King said: "Everyone should be aware that the work that goes into the Royal Palace Sprint is truly impressive. An organising committee is tasked by the Swedish Ski Association with the planning. The competition is carried out with officials from sports associations from Stockholm. "Millions of TV viewers will soon be sharing this tough and decisive competition with you. "We look forward to an exciting afternoon, and wish the participants the best of luck!" The Royal Palace Sprint, together with the Swedish Ski Games in Falun, is part of the FIS World Cup Final for the 2011-12 season.
