The day began with The Crown Princess and the Swedish Brain Foundation's Secretary General Gunilla Steinwall declaring Brain Day open. In her speech, The Crown Princess said: "Many of us have seen at close quarters what happens when someone suffers from a disease of the brain. "It can result in a drastic change in life, not only for the sufferer but also for their relatives and those around them." The Crown Princess then listened to presentations by speakers including Professor Hugo Lagercrantz, Emma Igelström and Jon Wallner, and Professor Maria Eriksdotter.
