On Friday 14 September, Prince Daniel visited the 90+ gym at Sickla Health Centre.
District medical officer Göran Murvall started the 90+ gym at Sickla Health Centre around a year ago. Members must be at least 90 years old, and the average age of the group is currently 93. The Prince was given a tour of the gym, after which Göran Murvall and gym manager Kristoffer Sjöberg talked about the work of the centre. They explained to The Prince how the gym fulfils two functions: exercise and the opportunity to meet in a social situation. The focus in terms of exercise is on balance and strength. Age is no barrier to taking up exercise. From the age of 50, people lose around 1-2% of their muscle mass each year, and physical activity is important when it comes to staying healthy. The gym session began at 11 o'clock, and after a warm-up the participants carried out circuit training. The Prince went around and spoke with the participants, helping out on a few occasions.
