On Tuesday 22 November, the board meeting of H.M. Queen Silvia's Jubilee Fund was held.
The Queen is Chairwoman of the Board, and decisions were made at the meeting on which applications should be granted funding. H.M. Queen Silvia's Jubilee Fund for Research on Children and Children's Disabilities was established in connection with The Queen's 50th birthday in order to manage and distribute the donations that were received from the Swedish people in honour of The Queen's birthday. Every year the fund awards grants which can be applied for by students enrolled on postgraduate courses at universities and university colleges around the country. A specific area of research is prioritised each year, which is announced in connection with the invitation to apply for grants. The theme for 2011 is methods to prevent and treat severe mental and physical disabilities among children. H.M. Queen Silvia's Jubilee Fund announces who has received grants each year around the time of The Queen's birthday, 23 December. The actual presentation then takes place at the end of the following January at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The recipients come to the Palace and receive their grants from The Queen in person.
