On Thursday 20 October, The King and Queen began their visit to the USA.
The visit began with the opening of the exhibition "Luminous Modernism: Nordic Art in America", for which they were joined by the King and Queen of Norway, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Finland's President Tarja Halonen. The exhibition brings together works by several of the Nordic artists who took part in a major exhibition in the USA in 1912, and is part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of the American Scandinavian Foundation. The American Scandinavian Foundation works to spread knowledge and encourage exchanges between the USA and the Nordic countries. Scandinavia House was opened in 2000 in New York as a way of showing the Nordic region to an American audience. The exhibition includes works by the following artists: Denmark P.S.
