On Monday 17 October, The Crown Princess presented the National Encyclopaedia's Knowledge Awards 2011 at the Knowledge Gala held in Stockholm City Hall.
This year, there were three award categories: The Knowledge Award, the International Honorary Prize and the People's Choice. The Glada Hudik Theatre won the People's Choice award. The People's Choice award is decided by an online vote in which the entire population of Sweden is eligible to vote. Behrang Miri and Emerich Roth won the Knowledge Award, while this year's International Honorary Prize was awarded to author Karen Armstrong for "spreading knowledge about the importance of religion to mankind over the course of many years, in particular highlighting the similarities between different religions". The Knowledge Awards are Sweden's top awards for the innovative promotion of knowledge. They were established in 2002 by the National Encyclopaedia.
