According to tradition, on 10 December The Queen presented the first prize to the winners of Nutidsorienteringen, a current affairs quiz.
The Queen congratulated all the winners, each of whom were presented with a brooch. The presentation took place in Lovisa Ulrika's dining hall at the Royal Palace.

In addition to a trip to Stockholm and the presentation at the Royal Palace, the young people were also expected to attend a lunch with Minister for Education Jan Björklund, the presentation of the Nobel Prizes at Stockholm Concert Hall, and a dinner in the evening.

Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter has been running the quiz since 1939. The competition is aimed at all upper secondary school pupils in Sweden. On 4 October 2011, 235,547 pupils participated from 1,061 schools across the country. A winner is picked from each county and those with the highest scores are also national winners.
