The exhibition focuses on the origins of Philadelphia and the Swedish colony that was founded at New Sweden in Delaware. The first Swedes came to Delaware in 1638.
The American Swedish Historical Museum in South Philadelphia is the oldest Swedish museum in the USA. It was founded in 1926, and tells the tale of the historic links between Sweden and the USA. The museum was opened by the then Crown Prince Gustav Adolf (the future King Gustav VI Adolf).
