King opens Royal Palace Sprint

The King opened the seventh Royal Palace Sprintexternal link, opens in new window on Wednesday 17 March.
It was the first time that the Royal Palace Sprint was won by a Swedish competitor, Anna Olsson.

In his welcome speech The King said that "the Royal Palace Sprint is carried out in classic style. The course, with ascents at Lejonbacken and the finishing stretch at Slottsbacken measures 1,030 metres. The Palace setting is perfectly suited to an excellent sprint course of world class."

Both the Royal Palace Sprint and the Swedish cross-country skiing championships in Falun are included in the major FIS WORLD CUP FINAL for the 2009/10 season.
