The King and Queen, together with The Crown Princess, took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial in Pitsund, outside Piteå, which was raised in memory of the conflicts in Pitsund in 1809.

Russia's ambassador Alexander Kadakin also attended the ceremony, and laid a wreath.

Following the ceremony, The King and Queen and The Crown Princess travelled to Haparanda and Tornio, where they visited ‘På gränsen', which was built on the border between Haparanda in Sweden and Tornio in Finland.

The days spent in Västerbotten and Norrbotten have been about the past, the present and the age in which we live. The historical battles in Ratan, Sävar and Pitsund, when Sweden and Finland were separated, have given a glimpse of the past. The joint building project between Haparanda in Sweden , and Tornio in Finland, with the shopping centre ‘På gränsen', gives a flavour of life as it is now.
