On Tuesday 13 October, The King presented the 'Settler of the Year' award at a ceremony in the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Palace.
This year's award was given to Layla Naseh, with her company Ln'S Hygien Team AB in Örebro. Layla Naseh was born in Iraq and came to Sweden in 2004. Layla Naseh started up her own company after just two months in Sweden. The company now employs eight people and has a turnover of approximately 2 million kronor.
The Settler of the Year award Category B was introduced in 2008. This year the award went to Earbooks AB, owned by Shadi Bitar and Ninos Malik. Shadi Bitar was born in Syria and came to Sweden in 1989, and Ninos Malik, also born in Syria, came to Sweden in 1990.
Earbooks AB represents a new Swedish generation of entrepreneurs, with young, highly-qualified and motivated people choosing to start their own companies instead of a safe, permanent job. EarbooksAB works with the distribution and production of audiobooks.
