The King presented the Polar Music Prize for the eighteenth year in a row on Monday 31 August. The ceremony this year took place in a packed Concert Hall in Stockholm, and the prize-winners, Maestro José Antonio Abreu and Peter Gabriel, were each awarded the sum of one million Swedish kronor.
For the first time, the prize-winners were also presented with personal works of art. Karin Mamma Andersson and Jochum Nordström had produced the works of art, which were presented at the ceremony.
