On Wednesday 17 June, yachtsmen competing in the Volvo Ocean Race arrived in Stockholm, and in the afternoon they paid a visit to the Royal Palace.
The King invited all the competitors to a garden party at Logården, the palace gardens, which are located on the eastern side by the water. The party was also attended by The Queen, The Crown Princess and Prince Carl Philip. Guests also included the yachtsmen's shore teams, and representatives from the business community.
In his welcome speech to the yachtsmen, The King said that it was "an honour for Stockholm to be able to act as host for one of the stops in the Volvo Ocean Race."
The yachtsmen will be in Stockholm until 25 June, when the final leg of the race begins. The race will finish in St Petersburg, with competitors expected to arrive on 27 June.
