Queen Silvia was present when a new course in dementia care for nurses started at Silviahemmet on January 31st. The course has been developed in cooperation with Silviahemmet (a non-profit foundation educating professionals and delivering day-care within the area of Alzheimer's disease and dementia) and Sophiahemmet University College in Stockholm (which offers nursing degrees).

About 40 nurses from different parts of Sweden have now begun their part-time, distance learning, internet studies which will last for one year. Silviahemmet and Sophiahemmet University College are already collaborating on a course in dementia care for practical nurses, which started three years ago.

So far more than one hundred students have completed their studies, and around 130 practical nurses are in middle of their studies.
