For the first time The Georg and Eva Klein Visiting Professor Award was handed out at a ceremony on January 29th at Karolinska Institutet, just outside of Stockholm. The Crown Princess handed over the award to Professor Robert A. Weinberg of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.

The purpose of the award is to stimulate research exchange on an international level, and Professor Weinberg has contributed with pioneering discoveries with in the field of tumor biology. The distinction means that Robert Weinberg will spend a few weeks at Karolinska Institutet for an intense exchange of ideas, methods and contacts.

Georg and Eva Klein are two Swedish internationally renowned researchers who have made significant discoveries with in cancer research. In connection with their 80th birthdays a fund was established which is responsible for the award.
