The Romanian state visit continued until 12 March and was concluded during the afternoon, when the Presidential couple left Sweden.

In the morning, King Carl XVI Gustaf and President Basescu participated in the inauguration of a Romanian-Swedish business forum at theWorldTradeCenterin Stockholm. There then followed a visit to power company Vattenfall. The President and Mrs Basescu invited the King and Queen and Crown Princess Victoria, along with several other guests, to a reciprocal lunch at the Grand Hotel. During the afternoon the President spoke at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, in a speech entitled “Romania and the Black Sea region", in the presence of the King and other guests.

Youth and culture

Queen Silvia and Mrs Basescu devoted the morning to children, youth and culture. AtManillaSchoolon Royal Djurgården in Stockholm, they were met on the steps by a large group of the school´s pupils, and then taken on a guided tour of the premises. The Queen and Mrs Basescu visited two separate classes to observe the teaching methods being used. A poetry reading in sign language by two intermediate-level pupils in one of the stairwells was much appreciated.

At Waldemarsudde, the Queen and Mrs Basescu were shown around the current exhibition, Minnenas vind (Wind of Memories), which consists of works produced by ceramics sculptor Hertha Hillfons. Whilst there, Queen Silvia and Mrs Basescu had the chance to try out the clay armchairs that are usually in Hertha Hillfons´ home when they are not being exhibited at Waldemarsudde.

During a visit to Fryshuset on Södermalm in Stockholm, the Queen and Mrs Basescu met national hockey players and skateboarders. Both visitors were also informed about Fryshuset´s activities and projects, for example Lugna Gatan (Peaceful Street).

The Romanian state visit was concluded in the customary manner at the RoyalPalace, where the King and Queen and Crown Princess said their official goodbyes to the Presidential couple.
