On Tuesday 23 September, The King and Queen and The Crown Princess attended the opening of the Synod in Uppsala.

Women priests for 50 years

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the opening up of the ministry to women, and the event was celebrated with a ceremony led by Archbishop Anders Wejryd in the University Assembly Hall. Speaker of the Riksdag Per Westerberg, Archbishop Katharine Jefferts Schori of the Lutheran church USA, and Secretary-General of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) Colin Williams all participated in the ceremony. The ceremony was followed by a commemorative service at Uppsala Cathedral.
