Crown Princess Victoria presents Junior Water Prize

On 19 August, Joyce Chair from the USA was presented with the Junior Water Prize by the Crown Princess.Joyce Chai was given the award for her work: “Modelling the Toxic Effects of Silver Nanoparticles under Varying Environmental Conditions."
Her work describes the initial analysis results of an improved and non-toxic treatment method for heavy metals in waste water. With the example of silver, she demonstrates for the first time that when metals combine with small particles (nanoparticles) during the treatment process, they become significantly less hazardous to the environment than if they are simply released straight into the environment as metal ions.
