On 21 August, Crown Princess Victoria presented the Stockholm Water Prize to John Anthony Allan for his “virtual water" concept, which has increased understanding of the significance of water in society.

People do not only consume water when they drink it or take a shower. John Anthony Allan, who works at King´s College in London, has demonstrated this in his research, which measures how water is embedded in the production and trade of food and consumer products. His research has enabled him to show why certain countries consume more water than others, and opened the door for better and more efficient use of water resources.
