Crown Princess makes opening speech at Interfaith Climate Summit in Uppsala

A two-day summit in Uppsala on 28-29 November covered the issue of climate change from a religious and cultural perspective, also looking at the scientific, economic and technical aspects. Thirty religious representatives from various faiths all around the world were invited to discuss what can be done to encourage people, create hope and find ways of countering climate change.

The thirty religious representatives signed the 'Uppsala Manifesto', a physical expression of their shared responsibility for the climate. People from various faiths all over the world will unite around this issue. The Manifesto will also be presented to governments and international organisations that have climate change high on the agenda.

The Interfaith Climate Summit is taking place as a result of the UN's climate conference in Copenhagen 2009, to discuss a new climate protocol to succeed the Kyoto Protocol 2012.
