On 8 October, President Tarja Halonen and Crown Princess Victoria opened the exhibition "1809 - A Kingdom Divided and a New Beginning. The Bicentenary of the Finnish War" at Finland's National Museum in Helsinki.

The exhibition is a partnership between Finland's National Museum and the Royal Armoury. The exhibition not only focuses on the events of the war itself, but also describes the background to the war and its consequences. Finland as part of the Kingdom of Sweden; Napoleon's aspirations for power, which led to the last war to be fought between Sweden and Russia; the changes brought about by the separation, both in Finland and in Sweden.

The exhibition is on display at Finland's National Museum from October 2008 until 2009, and at the Royal Armoury in Stockholm from June 2009 until the end of the year.
