Princess Lilian shared her husband Prince Bertil's interest in sports. Prince Bertil was Chairman of the Swedish Sports Confederation for 44 years, from 1947 to 1991. After his death, Princess Lilian took over many of his honorary duties.
 
Every year she distributed grants from the “Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian Sports Foundation". The purpose of the foundation is to promote Swedish sport by awarding grants to leaders and instructors for their further education. Princess Lilian distributed grants from the foundation at the annual meeting of "Friends of the Swedish Sports Confederation".

Popular Award Presenter


Princess Lilian honoured Prince Bertil's interest in motor sports by awarding medals at the annual meeting of the Royal Swedish Automobile Club. She was also a loyal presenter of awards at the annual motor race “Prince Bertil's Memorial" on the island of Djurgården in Stockholm, and at the Stockholm Open international tennis competition.
 
In her capacity as Duchess of Halland, Princess Lilian participated in the Halland Academy Festival Day. According to tradition, Princess Lilian also awarded the Söderbergska Award in Medicine and the Hasselblad Award.
