State visit to Brazil

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will be paying a state visit to Brazil from 23 - 26 March 2010 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The Swedish government will be represented by Minister for Social Affairs, Göran Hägglund. Chairman of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Signhild Arnegård Hansen, is leading a Swedish business delegation to Brazil in connection with the state visit.

Media representatives will need special accreditation in order to cover the visit. The final day for applications for accreditation is 11 March.
 

Preliminary programme


The programme will begin in Brasilia on 23 March in the afternoon with a formal reception ceremony, a meeting with the trade delegation and an informal dinner with President Lula da Silva.

On 24 March, the programme will include a visit to the Supreme Court, the National Congress, an official meeting including lunch with President Lula da Silva, as well as a meeting at the Ministry of Justice on the Brazilian Forest Peoples Programme.
 
On 25-26 March the state visit will continue in São Paulo and São José dos Campos, with a visit to the Swedish church, a seminar on strengthening industrial and technological cooperation between Brazil and Sweden, and visits to several companies.
 
The programme will also include a seminar on human trafficking and sexual exploitation, as well as a meeting on corporal punishment. The state visit will end on the afternoon of 26 March.
