Operakällaren has been preparing food for the Royal Household since 1961, and has since then been responsible for banquets during all state visits and official dinners, as well as H.M. The King's dinner at the Royal Palace for the Nobel Laureates the day after the award ceremony.
Operakällaren was given its name back in 1787, when the restaurant was located in the cellar (källare) underneath Gustav III's opera house. Tore Wretman took over the reins at Operakällaren in the 1950s.
Alessandro Catenacci took over the Tore Wretman restaurants in December 1987 and has carefully preserved Operakällaren's traditions and quality. Operakällaren was awarded a Michelin Gold Star in 1997, under the management of Stefano Catenacci.
