The King awards the Prince Carl Medal to Johan von Schreeb

On Tuesday 16 December, the King presented the Prince Carl Medal to Johan von Schreeb, in recognition of his outstanding international humanitarian efforts.

Johan von Schreeb is a surgeon and Associate Professor at the Centre for Disaster Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet. He co-founded the Swedish section of Doctors Without Borders in 1993, and last autumn he initiatied a course on behalf of the university for personnel who will be fighting Ebola out in the field.

The Prince Carl Medal

The Prince Carl Medal was instituted by King Gustaf V on 1 December 1945, on the occasion of Prince Carl's retirement as Chairman of the Swedish Red Cross, a position he assumed in 1906.

Those who have been awarded the medal in recent years include Professor Sture Linnér, Princess Christina, Secretary General Markku Niskala and Rear Admiral Sten Swedlund.
