The service was led by Dean Åke Bonnier, assisted by the Bishop of Stockholm, Eva Brunne.
In keeping with tradition, The King and Queen and The Crown Princess Couple travelled by horse and carriage from the Royal Palace of Stockholm to Riksdagshuset, where they were met by Speaker Per Westerberg. The King and Queen travelled in the Sjuglas State Carriage, while The Crown Princess Couple travelled in the Karl XV Parade Coupé.
The King declared the Parliamentary Session open, after which Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt read the Statement of Government Policy. During the opening of the Parliamentary Session, music was performed by the Brass Quintet and the Wind and String Ensemble from the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
In the evening, The King and Queen and The Crown Princess Couple attended a concert at Stockholm Concert Hall to mark the opening of the Parliamentary Session.
