On Monday 30 August, The King presented the Polar Music Prize for the nineteenth year in a row. At a packed Stockholm Concert Hall, prize-winners Maestro Ennio Morricone and Björk won awards worth a million kronor each.

On Saturday 28 August, The King opened the Bothnia Line. The railway line runs from Ångermanlandälven, immediately north of Kramfors Airport, via Örnsköldsvik, Husum, Nordmaling, Hörnefors and Umeå.

On Friday 27 August, The King awarded the Karolinska Institutet's Gold Medal in the presence of The Queen and The Crown Princess Couple at the celebrations to mark Karolinska Institutet's 200th anniversary at Stockholm City Hall.
